On February 24, 2025, Uttar Pradesh officials announced plans to extend the judicial inquiry regarding the tragic stampede at Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Initially intended to explore reasons for the incident on January 29 that resulted in over 30 deaths, it will now also address how many lives were lost and what properties were damaged as a result of this event. This development was presented to Allahabad High Court as a vital step towards ensuring accountability in this situation.

The announcement occurred during discussions at Allahabad High Court on Monday. Although the mishap took place on January 29, it highlights governmental commitment towards an understanding of events despite initiating action nearly a month later.

Bad stampede happened at Maha Kumbh Mela, a big religious meet that happens every year in Prayagraj where many people come for rituals by the Ganges river. The bad event occurred during important bathing times, leading to many deaths while investigations are still happening with supervision from Allahabad High Court.

A group of three judges is set up to look into what caused this and its effects as these judges check conditions closely while legal matters are handled by high court officials too. Victims and their families stay the main focus, wanting justice for losses from this disaster.

Inquiry extension shows need for deep look not just at events but also results like death tallies and damages from large gatherings, demanding careful review stressing need for accountability across all levels involved here. Teamwork between government groups and judiciary efforts wants to find out if gaps in safety rules or crowd control played a role that could have stopped problems facing so many affected people now.
